The best and spiciest olives this side of the Rhe can be found in the open market in La Croix Rousse on Sundays. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.



The man who makes them (and yes, he always wears that hat) calls them, most appropriately, "Les Mexicaines". I don't know what peppers he's using to cure those olives but as someone who has eaten the spiciest of foods in Mexico, believe me when I tell you that this man's olives give all the spicy dishes I've ever eaten a run for their money.
